Sunefun has two processing modes. Drying Mode dehydrates and grinds food waste; its residue is not compost and should not be used directly as fertilizer. Microbial Mode uses beneficial microbes to break down food scraps. Mix its finished output with soil at a 1:4 ratio before using it as fertilizer.
Drying Mode uses heat, grinding and stirring to reduce food waste in 3–8 hours without microbes. Microbial Mode uses Microbe Starter, controlled heat, aeration and mixing to process food scraps in 12–20 hours.
Both modes reduce food-waste volume by at least 90%, with an average reduction of about 95%. Actual results vary with the type, amount and volume of food scraps.
Sunefun has a 2.5L inner bucket. Keep food scraps at least 2 cm below the rim so the contents have room to mix.
If one load is too large, split it into separate batches.
Yes. You can add food scraps while either mode is running, as long as the contents remain at least 2 cm below the rim. Adding more scraps restarts the processing timer, so allow a new full cycle from the latest addition.
Empty and clean the bucket after Drying Mode, then allow the machine to cool for 1 hour. Add a new Microbe Starter tablet with food scraps before starting Microbial Mode. The machine does not have a temperature indicator, so use the full one-hour cooling period.
Both modes can process:
Do not add:
Yes. Meat scraps, fish scraps, small fish bones and cooked food can be processed in either mode. Large bones and hard shells must stay out.
Only output from Microbial Mode can be used as fertilizer. Mix one part output with four parts soil before use. It can be used after mixing; for better results, let the mixture rest for 48 hours.
Output from Drying Mode is dried food-waste residue and should not be used directly as fertilizer.
The machine is designed with an activated carbon filter to reduce odors.
When used properly, there should be minimal to no noticeable smell in your kitchen.
The operating noise level is below 35 dB.
Wipe the bucket and lid area as needed. In Microbial Mode, leave about a 1 cm base layer in the bottom whenever you remove finished material so the microbes can continue working in the next cycle.
If the food scraps are unusually dry, add 100 ml of clean water. Water is not required for every load.
If the bucket is completely emptied, add a new Microbe Starter tablet before the next Microbial Mode cycle.
In Microbial Mode, add 100 ml of clean water only when the food scraps are unusually dry. Water is required for Cleaning Mode; do not exceed 1.2L when starting its 30-minute cycle.
Add clean water to the bucket without exceeding 1.2L. Hold the Power/Mode button for 1.5 seconds to turn on the machine. Then press and hold the Enter/Clean button twice. Cleaning Mode runs for 30 minutes.
The main ongoing supply is the Sunefun Microbe Starter. Add one tablet with food scraps when first starting Microbial Mode, then add one tablet every 6 months.
Add a new tablet after a complete bucket cleanout if no microbial base layer remains. Each Microbe Starter package contains two tablets.
Add one Microbe Starter tablet when first starting Microbial Mode and every 6 months afterward. If the bucket is completely emptied and no base layer remains, add a new tablet before restarting Microbial Mode.
